STANDING ON THE PROMISES

"He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit." Galatians 3:14

"The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off--for all whom the Lord our God will call." Acts 2:39

"The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient wtih you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." 2 Peter 3:9

"Being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised." Romans 4:21

"Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful." Hebrews 10:23

"Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires." 2 Peter 1:4

God bless you as you visit the wonderful praise and worship sites through Spiritual Sundays.

I think about this song and tits meaning in my life, the lives of all the brothers and sisters in Christ ... and the potential for the lives of those who do not know the Lord. Promises of God missed is a eternal tragedy as Christ is the only plan of Salvation, and without retoration of the spirit through the atonement of Jesus' substitutionary death for our sins and His resurrection defecting death, thereis no other promise worth standing on. Love how Alan Jackson sings this wonderful hymn.

I haven't heard this song in many years. I'm ashamed to say I haven't even been singing it myself. Listening to it brings back many memories of days gone by. Thank you for this excellent post.

Thank you Bobbi for this wonderful message of God's love for us. I often find myself thinking about the words in the verses of this hymnal. We can all rely on all of God's promises that He has given us. He will never let us down. Blessings. Lloyd

Bobbi, just came by to say Hi and thanks for dropping by my blog and signing up to join me on the journey of life. So glad to know you are a christian psychologist. The world certainly needs people like you.

Interesting blog, and thank the Lord for your work. As you well know, there are those Christians who feel a problem is either physical or it's spiritual. And that the answer to (for example) clinical depression is simply repentance and faith.

The spiritual dimension of our beings is always a factor, but I appreciate those who deal with psychological conditions in a biblical way. My wife has suffered with depression for many years, and her experience has taught us both a great deal.

On another matter entirely, if you enjoy reading about our hymns and their authors, I invite you to check out my daily blog on the subject, Wordwise Hymns.

And if you’ll excuse a brief “commercial:” If you do not have a good book on the subject of our Christmas carols, I encourage you to take a look at my own, Discovering the Songs of Christmas. In it, I discuss the history and meaning of 63 carols and Christmas hymns. The book is available through Amazon, or directly from Jebaire Publishing. (Might make a great gift too!)
